SFU vs Chapman A lackluster first 15 minutes contributed to a 5-0 Chapman lead. The second quarter was much better for the Clan but the score was still 7-2 for the Panthers at half. The third stanza saw two evenly matched teams with the quarter score tied at 3. That being said Chapman still led 10-5 going into the final quarter. SFU was able to close the gap to 10-7 with over 7 minutes but were unable to score again until a Chapman penalty with 3:45 left. A quick EMO goal, by Mike Christians (3g, 3a) followed by fast break goal by Dane Reelie (3g, 1a) off the ensuing faceoff left the score at 10-9. Another untimely penalty for Chapman lead to the tying goal by Mike Christians. The game seemed destined for OT much like the previous nights game versus Rhode Island, but 1st team AA Danny Metoyer netted the winning goal for Chapman with :38 seconds remaining. Another exciting game for the Clan who next see action against another California team as they take on the UC Davis Aggies on Tuesday March 29. |

SFU vs Rhode Island After a quick start that saw the Clan build a 4-0 first quarter lead the wheels seemed to come off the train in the second quarter. Rhode Island came out strong and closed the gap to 6-5 at half time. The third quarter saw a back and forth game with plenty of opportunities for both sides with game going into the final quarter with Simon Fraser still leading by 1 goal 9-8. Both teams continued to battle hard in the fourth quarter. With less than 12 minutes left SFU lead 11-8 but the Rams did not give up and tied the game up within 4 minutes. Rhode Island continued playing with the momentum on their side and managed to take the lead, 13-12, with 2:39 left. The Clan showed some incredible resolve though, not giving an inch and fighting until the final whistle. With less than 30 seconds left, defenceman Richard Singer intercepted a pass deep in the defensive end and proceeded to start a fast break for the ages. As the clock continued to tick down a couple of perfect passes left Dane Reelie (4g, 3a) with a wide open look on the crease. With 17 seconds left the game was tied at 13 and headed for overtime. SFU had two open looks in the first 4 minute OT period but were unable to score and Aaron Pascas (13 saves) made two saves during that period to send the game into double overtime. The second OT was short lived as a faceoff win by the Clan led to a quick shot which was initially saved by the RI goalie but Dane Reelie managed to find the loose ball and pot the winning goal for a 14-13 double OT win for SFU. The Clan also had strong offensive performances from Ben Came (3g, 2a) Mike Christians (2g, 3a) and Pat Corrigan (2g, 1a). |

SFU vs University of Oregon The much anticipated matchup of the two PNCLL heavyweights took place on Sunday morning, #1 Oregon vs #2 SFU. After losing twice to the Ducks last year the Clan were fully prepared for this game. Oregon scored the first goal of the game at 3:20 of the first quarter but that would be the last goal for sometime as the SFU defence held the Ducks off the scoresheet for over 20 mins. In the meantime SFU went on a 5 goal run to take a 5-1 lead. A late second quarter goal by Oregon ended the scoring in the first half with SFU taking a 5-2 lead into the break. The third quarter saw plenty of possession offence by both teams, waiting for the opposing defence to make a mistake. Mike Christians scored the only goal of the quarter to give the Clan a 6-2 lead going into the final quarter. The last 15 mins saw Oregon take a few more offensive chances in order to close the gap. Freshman goalie Aaron Pascas made 27 saves helping the #14 ranked SFU Clan upset the #8 ranked Oregon Ducks to take possession of first place in the PNCLL. |

In the second half, SFU tallied 5 3rd quarter goals followed by 3 in the 4th quarter to solidify a 14-10 victory against a resilient Chico team. SFU vs OSU After arriving late to the game, the Beavers struggled to pull themselves together. SFU jumped to a quick 2 goal lead but the Beavers battled back to tie it up and take the lead 3-2 at the half. Beavers came out rolling in the 3rd quarter to take a 5-2 lead, but unfortunatley so did SFU. After taking a 2 point lead in the 4th, SFU used thier possesion offense to keep OSU away from the net. OSU managed 2 more goals, but SFU put in the clincher and maintained control of the ball. A good game, and one we were sorry to lose, but we will see you again SFU. Great game. |
